Welcoming Uriyah Kelley to Team SDG

We’re excited to have Uriyah Kelley #98747 join #TeamSDG. I got the chance to speak with him recently about disc golf and the upcoming 2020 season. He’s only 10 but he’s already a disc golfer through and through with the way he talks about the game. For example when I asked if he was going to carry his dad in the doubles tournament they’re playing together he told me “I’ll try.”

Me: How old were you when you first started playing?
Uriyah: I was throwing when I was 4 years old. Not playing the whole round but throwing on the course.

Are you a forehand or backhand thrower? I saw in Champs vs Chumps you had a great flex forehand on Hole 1 of the playoff.
I started with the forehand but I know that you need both so I practice both. Now I throw them both about the same amount.

What happened between June 2018 and July 2018? I see a jump of about 100 ratings points that’s got to be a record.
I don’t know, I just started playing better.

What are some goals that you both have this season?
I want to do well in all my tournaments and get my rating up to 920. I think I can win some tournaments in AM2 this year.

What tournaments are you excited for this season?
USADGC, Worlds, The Virginia State Championships.

Do you play other sports or video games?
I played tackle football a few years ago but not anymore. And I sometimes play video games but not a lot.

What are you throwing for a driver and a putter right now?
For a driver I use the Blizzard Champion Wraith. I love wraiths, they’re good backhand and forehand. And I’ve always used DX Aviars to putt.

We had a couple other minutes to chat and Uriyah told me that he’s excited to play at Maple Hill this year, he was shocked I hadn’t been there yet. He’s still hunting for his first ace and knows it will come with time, and he’s got plenty of confidence in his abilities. Uriyah is a great competitor and an excellent disc golfer. In addition to being sponsored by InnovaFlighTowel, WhyDry, Thrower's Choice, and Team Kids Disc Golf; he also has his own disc stamp with his nickname of “The Granite State Kid”. We’re happy he decided to join #TeamSDG; the future is bright for disc golf.
