While most eyes were focused on the EURGC in South Carolina on October 4-6, more local players took to the courses of Bittersweet Ridge and Pineland Farms to compete in the Maine State Championships. 85 players faced off in 8 divisions on the Pro Loop and Sweetside courses, in North Yarmouth, and the Minuteman and Patriot, in New Gloucester.
Not surprisingly, there was a familiar face on the podium. Nathaniel DeLisle took care of business in the AM2 division and won by 11 strokes. Nate has had a remarkable season but this championship was really a testament to his hard work this season. The 3 courses Nate played were the Sweetside at Bittersweet Ridge, the Patriot, and the Minuteman, both at Pineland Farms.
He came out firing on an incredibly windy Friday and was in second place by a couple of strokes. Nate's play improved the second day where he took a commanding lead and shot a 61 on the Pineland Patriot; a very demanding course that is over 7,000 feet long!
His last round was the icing on the cake though, as Nate managed to score a 45 on the Minuteman. That round was rated 991, and is Nate's highest recorded round in tournament play to date. He ended up throwing 15,981 feet over 159 throws in 3 days.
trainzwholesale is proud to sponsor Nate as he works hard towards his goal of becoming a professional disc golfer. He remains focused on his game as he attended the Maine Player's Tour, followed by his next tournament which will take place in our own backyard at the SDG Open on October 27.
